The Deputy Secretary General of the MCB, Dr Shuja Shafi, attended a two day International Conference on "Global Winds of Change: Religion’s Role in Today’s World; The Challenges in Democracies and Secular Society” in Ukraine. The event was organised by the Kyiv Interfaith Forum and was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kyiv on 25th and 26th April 2012.
The conference touched upon many important issues such as Religion in Global Society, Media and Religion in the 21st Century, Analysis of Contemporary Developments within Christianity, Islam and Judaism in the Modern World and Modern Religious Conflicts: Causes & Resolutions.
Dr Shuja Shafi provided many recommendations at the conference, one of which was to establish an International Interfaith Committee on health issues. He suggested that Faith communities must work together to defend their religious rights with responsibilities.
Imam Dr Abdul Jalil Sajid, Vice Chair of MCB’s Inter Faith Relations committee, also spoke at the event about the about value of faith communities and stressed on working together between different faiths and cultures on local, regional, national and International levels.
