 An award for a lifetime of services to the Muslim community was presented to Dr Syed Aziz Pasha on 25th May. The MCB and the Islamic Cultural Centre, London, hosted the reception, at which he was presented the award. Dr Pasha is founding General Secretary General of the Union of Muslim Organisations.
The evening was chaired by the Director General of the Islamic Cultural Centre, London, Dr Ahmed Al-Dubayan. Dr Pasha's colleagues and well-wishers made short speeches. The MCB award was presented by Iqbal Sacranie, MCB Secretary General.
Dr Pasha was born in Arkot, South India on 10th July 1930. He graduated in law from the University of Madras and was an advocate in the Madras High Court. Proceeding to higher studies in the United States, he obtained an LLM at the University of Wisconsin and was awarded a doctorate in juridical science (SJD) by the New York University. In 1963 he served as an advisor to the Indian delegation to the United Nations. Since arriving in Britain in 1965 he has been working devotedly for the betterment and well-being of Muslims and their rights. In addition to his duties at UMO, between 1973-83 he served as President of the Indian Muslim Federation UK.
