 The Lord Mayor of the City of London and the MCB hosted an iftar reception on 29th September. Chief Guest was the Hon Mike O'Brien, QC MP, Solicitor General.Sir David Brewer, Lord Mayor of the City of London and the Muslim Council of Britain jointly hosted the event that marked the start of Ramadan. Journalist Michael Binyon, writing in The Times noted, "the gathering at Mansion House, the first of its kind to be hosted by the City, was evidence not only of a growing Muslim presence in Britain's financial centre but also underlined the capital's aspirations to become a Western centre of Islamic banking".
