GLA Conference Tuesday 23 January 2007

The Mayor of London hosted a conference at the QE2 Centre on the theme 'World Civilisation or a Clash of Civilisations'. Speakers included Salma Yaqoob, Dr Bari and Inayat Bunglawala. Dr Bari's theme was 'Is Britain becoming more segregated?' while Inayat participated in a panel 'Enlightenment values and modern society'. The event took place at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. Councillor Salma Yaqoob, a member of the MCB's Central Working Committee, contributed to the panel 'The right to religious dress'. The main debate, chaired by Gavin Esler, BBC Newsnight presenter, was between Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, and Daniel Pipes, Director of the Middle East Forum, an American think tank.
