Respected Imam and Chair of the Mosque Management Committee,
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,
EUROPEAN KHUTBA
Commemoration of Srebrenica Genocide: 11th July
I am writing to draw your attention to a subject which will continue to bleed the hearts of Muslims in Europe and beyond. In July 1995 more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica were slaughtered mercilessly. Srebrenica was a UN-protec ted "safe area" but that did not prevent the massacre, even though 400 armed Dutch 'peacekeepers' were present at the time. The Srebrenica massacre is the largest mass murder in Europe since World WII.
The European Union has proclaimed 11th July as a day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide. It is vital that we bring about awareness of the genocide, especially on the back of recent wave of Islamophobia across Europe.
To ensure that Muslims, indeed humanity, never forget such barbarity the Raisu-l-'Ulama Dr Mustafa Ceriæ - Grand Mufti of Bosnia has prepared a European Khutba which we attach here. The Muslim Council of Britain encourages our respected Imams in Mosques and Islamic Centres to read this Khutba during the Friday Jummah Prayer today (Friday 9th July 2010).
May Allah grant the martyrs of Srebrenica the highest place in Jannah and bless Europe with guidance as a reward of their sacrifice.
Wasalaam,
Your brother,
Farooq Murad
