HEALTH AND FOOD STANDARDS

Objectives

  • To serve, protect and represent the interests and health
aspects of Muslims in Britain. To be the interface between the British
Muslim Community and healthcare agencies - Government or other bodies
(National Health Service, the General Medical Council and other
    agencies)

  • Acting on behalf of the MCB, authoritatively advise and lobby the
the relevant government departments and other concerned bodies on
strategies and matters relating to faith-based issues of concern to the
community. To ensure that the views of the British Muslims are
represented at the appropriate forums and debated in the context of
Islamic beliefs, and that relevant information is made available to
organisations in a timely manner to assist their understanding and
thereby ease their decision-making on the specialist subjects.

  • To act with vigilance, promote debate and facilitate consensus on
behalf of the Muslim community on issues related to their future and to
the new frontiers of research within the Medical and Health Sciences,
such as human genetics, organ donation and transplantation.

  • Special facilitations in areas which are unique to the Muslims e.g. Hajj, Qurbani, Halaal Food

  • Promote the concept of using Mosques and Community centres as
places of Health Education and health screening among our affiliates
and advise how it could be taken forward at local level. Make maximum
use of health professional expertise within the Muslim community by
encouraging a wide and broad-based participation. In pursuance of this
objective, the H&Medical Committee will set up a multi-professional
'expert panel' for each of the following areas in order to follow-up
implementation of suggestions put forward to the Policy Unit of the
Department of Health: Heart Disease , Diabetes, Mental Health,
Muslim-specific health issues (Hajj, male circumcision, Muslim
    Chaplaincy)
