Projects
We currently have a variety of projects that are either being planned or are running:
1. Affiliate Consultation
This is an ongoing project which is outreach work with our affiliates who cater for the youth. It encompasses a series of meetings with our affiliates in order to ascertain the needs of young Muslims in their immediate area, region and on a wider and national level.
2. Young Muslim Beacon Awards (YMBA)
An awards ceremony showcasing the achievements of various organisations up and down the country, using the format of case studies to show methods of best practice in various fields.

3. Media Skills Training Workshops
This is a series of workshops delivered to young activists in the Muslim community. The workshops aim to develop the activist's background, knowledge and understanding of the mainstream media as well as develop communication and leadership skills. The workshops are run by external organisations, most of whom are MCB affiliates.
The first such seminar was held at Birmingham University in October 2008 where the seminar was based on the topic 'Why engage with the media'. Concepts such as the theoretical background to the Media were delivered by Dr Noureddine Miladi, founder of the Centre for Arab and Muslim Media Research and a current Lecturer in Media Studies and Sociology at the University of Northampton. Alex Kirby, a former veteran of news journalism with over 20 years of experience working at the BBC, presented on 'why journalism matters' which initiated dialogue between the participants and speakers to override fears and anxieties young Muslims may have with regards to the Media.

4. Youth Organisations Directory and Database
This will entail a huge network of Muslim and non-Muslim youth organisations and youth groups in all parts of the country. As well as assisting in inter-organisational communication, it will also give the public realm (e.g. local authorities) an easy way of finding contact details for the various youth organisations in the country.
5. The Platform, Britain Ten Years On
The Platform is a youth led blog that seeks to facilitate a neutral ground upon which to have a renewed thinking for the future; how we want to be and how we can achieve it. It brings together a diverse milieu of talented young and mature writers to voice views on current events and topical issues. It is an open platform for debate and discussion; a space to constructively engage in an environment of mutual understanding and respect.
Furthermore, The Platform is a blog with a difference. Not merely a forum for commentary, it is a blog with a visionary objective and direction; one that seeks to assess the present and shape the future by espousing progression. And who better to lead on that, than the youth, the leaders of the future.
The aims of The Platform 2011 are:
1. To promote positive change in Britain through constructive debate
2. To provide an alternative narrative on current affairs and challenge stereotypes
3. To give a voice to young people and the wider community by creating a platform for proactive and creative discourse
Each week will see new, visionary and engaging articles posted from individuals throughout the UK and abroad. These will facilitate an engagement with the wider world by helping to encourage and generate thought-provoking views and opinions on the pertinent issues of the day. Blog articles will include contributions from leading academics, journalists and politicians, along with quality contributions from young writers, to generate an exchange of ideas.
The website was launched on the 22nd January 2010 at Imperial College London and will continue for five weeks with a view for it to be a long term initative. For more info the launch event see The Platform Launch News Item
