21 October 2009 The BEC will be having an informal annual dinner and get together for BEC members and friends, including those who might be interested in joining. Pay on the night. More detailed in the attached document
25-26 July 2009 The BEC held the fourth successful running of its “Effective Negotiation Skills” course. The course flyer explains its objectives and gives details of the instructor, Shahzad Bhatti, who is a world renowned advisor on negotiation. The course photo album shows the interactive nature of the training and how much the participants enjoyed it.
18 July 2009 Abid Shakeel, a BEC member, recently wrote a short introduction to Islamic finance and has agreed to it being shared here.
14 July 2009 The “Islamic Finance Experts Group” is an invitation only discussion group whose convenor is Fazl Syed. By following the links, you can access the report of the first meeting which discussed sukuk, and papers prepared for the meeting by Mohammed Amin (who could not attend), Massoud Janekeh, Muhammad Nurullah Shikder, and Navshir Jaffer.

27 February 2009 Some BEC members have written an MCB briefing paper,“London and Islamic Finance” for the Mayor of London, outlining the contribution of Islamic finance to London.
26 February 2009 In December 2008, HM Treasury and the Financial Services Authority issued a,consultation document to address concerns that sukuk might be treated as collective investment schemes for UK regulatory purposes. The MCB submitted a response which can be found here

15 Sep 2008 On 26 June 2008 HM Revenue and Customs issued a consultation document with a proposed stamp duty land tax relief where companies transfer land to another company to enable sukuk to be issued. The BEC sent a response on behalf of the MCB. The law has now been amended in Finance Act 2009 Schedule 61.
