The Muslim Council of Britain is deeply disturbed to hear about the shocking incident where a Muslim woman’s hijab was ripped off by two men in a busy London street.

The attack took place in Haringey, North London around 7.30pm on Wednesday 5th October. The victim was not injured but was deeply shocked and distressed by the incident.

Dr Omer El-Hamdoon, Deputy Secretary General of the MCB said, “That this attack happened in broad daylight in a busy London street is deeply worrying. We call on authorities to do all they can to ensure hate crimes are not constant incidences occurring in Great Britain. We need serious and tougher actions to be taken to fight religious hate crimes”.

Just last month, after an attack on a pregnant woman, the MCB had called for strong action from authorities to show that they are taking all hate crimes seriously, including Islamophobia, which had increased in recent times, especially post Brexit, as findings showed.

The MCB urges anyone who has seen the suspects to come forward and report it to the police.

Police descriptions of the suspects are below:

The first suspect is described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s, with blonde or ginger shaved hair and stubble. Police said he was about 5ft 6in and wearing a burgundy hooded top and carrying a Tesco bag in his right hand.

The second suspect was of Mediterranean appearance, in his late 20s or early 30s, and clean shaven, with spiky hair. He wore a grey hooded top.
