For those of you out there who are still waiting for those elusive moments of fame, this may be just the opportunity that you have been looking for! The BBC have contacted the MCB in connection with identifying possible Muslim talents for a new series for BBC1 which aims to explore how other families run their lives and households. On a more serious note, this is the type of opportunity we as a community need to grasp in order to help dispel popular myths and stereotypes about Islam and Muslims. In reality, most of us live quite normal lives – lives that revolve, for example, around school, work, friends and relations, and, of course, the local supermarket. Perhaps the only really 'exotic' aspect of our lives is the spiritual dimension. This centers above all on our Niyyah (intention), with the exterior manifestations often associated with Islam playing, in comparison, a secondary role. Any family who feels that they can make a useful contribution to promoting better understanding and helping to bridge cultural divides through participating in this series – that is, those with a sound intention – are encouraged to seize this opportunity.
