Drugs Derived from Pigs and their Clinical Alternatives
Wed 24 Nov 2004
The wide ranging consultation on choice, responsiveness and equity in the NHS makes clear that in future patients will be offered choice not just about when and where they receive treatment, but also about what kinds of treatment they receive, and how this is delivered.

The MCBs Research & Documentation Committee, working in conjunction with HealthGains Solutions, have produced a guide for patients and their doctors on medicines derived from pigs and suitable alternatives that may be safely used.

This is clearly of particular interest and benefit to Muslim and Jewish patients and also to patients who are vegetarians such as many Hindus and Sikhs.

Two versions are available: one for doctors (restricted access that requires GMC number) and another, for the general public. Public copies can either be downloaded from the website or hard copies can be obtained from the MCB office. Public copies are available in English, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi and Gujarati.
