What are the most difficult aspects of living in Britain? (Muslim Girls' responses)
-At school wearing the scarf was hard, not at University anymore -Not having prayer rooms at places of work and university. -Being a Muslim wearing the nikab is quite difficult with the abuse you get i.e. 'ninja' -People make comments about what you wear -Wearing hijab -Getting people to understand the reasons behind your acts of worship, ie pray five times, wear hijab
-Bias media and lack of positive support from Muslim MPs. -Because of the media, the public is generally misinformed about Islam -The media spreads lies and wrong information about Islam and Muslims -Wrong media coverage
-Being constantly viewed as a foreigner, and barriers that arise because of this. -Having to fit in -Always feel will not be accepted -Racist attacks or comment -Living around people who are not nice -Nobody cares what religion you are -People being racist towards Muslims -Having to feel like an outsider in school because I wear a scarf -Not getting along with people because of my colour -People keep looking at you like you are different -Everyone is not treated with the respect they deserve -It is a Christian country -Lack of understanding of the basic requirements of Islam by non-Muslims. -Being prejudged when telling someone new you are a Muslim. -That most people hate Islam and Muslims for no reason -People blaming all Muslims for what other people do -Because Britain is at war and we are living in their country
-Trying to be a good Muslim - there are too many distractions -The faith of Muslims becomes weaker because there are bad things - music, TV etc -Coping with all the different people around us and the way they live -UK is a very "americanised" or materialist country and wealth property and power are put before people -Trying to stick to your traditions - I do not find living in the UK difficult at all. - None (x2)
