Dear Sirs,
I am writing to complain about a story which appeared in today's Daily Express (see below). The story is about a Turkish student who pulled a gun on two schoolboys when they asked for their football back. The story refers to the student as a 'Muslim immigrant'.
This appears to be in contravention of the PCC's code of practice section 13(ii) which states that newspapers:
"must avoid publishing details of a person's race, colour, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability unless these are directly relevant to the story."
Please could the Press Complaints Commission investigate this. I have already written to the editor of the Daily Express, Chris Williams, about this issue.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Inayat Bunglawala,
Secretary,
Media Committee,
The Muslim Council of Britain
