Dear Sirs,
Re: Islam: Art and Architecture, ISBN: 3-8290-2558-0
We are writing to bring to your attention a serious error which has been printed in the above book published by yourselves.
On page 27 there appears a 17th Century Ottoman miniature depicting the Prophet Muhammad and his friend Abu Bakr hiding in a cave during the famous Hijra from Makka to Madina. The caption to the photo, however, reads: "Muhammad and Abu Bakr in Hell".
This is a very serious and offensive error most probably due to a mistaken translation from the original German. We understand that "hohle" in German is a cave while "holle" is hell.
Could you please urgently investigate this and ensure a correction is made without delay.
We look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Inayat Bunglawala

Re: Islam: Art & Architecture ISBN 3-8290-2558-0
I am wrting in response to your letter dated 23rd July 2002 informing us of the translation error which appears on page 26 of the first edition of the above title.
As you quite rightly pointed out, some confusion has occured during the translation process which has resulted in the word "cave" being mistranslated as "hell" in one of the captions of our publication. We are aware that this is a serious error and have issued errata slips to all our customers. As it would appear that you have not received the necessary correction, please accept our sincere apologies for any offence this error may have caused.
Kind regards
(Errata slip is available from the MCB office)
