Today marks a landmark occasion for London's one million Muslims. East London Mosque London's oldest centre of Muslim worship is proud to announce the launch of an exciting new initiative for the capital city. The London Muslim Centre, inaugurated by the Mosque, is the largest Muslim community and cultural centre of its kind in Europe. It aims to provide a diverse array of services to the entire community; the London Muslim Centre will actively seek to cater for all, irrespective of faith. The launch of the London Muslim Centre is a natural and necessary evolution for the East London Mosque, which itself was launched almost a hundred years ago in 1910. The London Muslim Centre aims to be an important feature on the city's rich cultural tapestry. It is a British success story, where Britons of all faiths enthusiastically supported and lobbied for the Centre's promulgation. It is a Muslim success story, where Muslim Londoners have launched a pioneering initiative to engage all sections of society. As a Centre used by all faiths and ethnic origins it hopes to foster much-needed engagement and dialogue between peoples of all religions and none. This uniquely British Muslim centre will bolster London's reputation as a vibrant and diverse international city.
