Can I just say a big thank you, from all of us at Carlton Bolling College to `Footsteps' team of MCB for organising an excellent event and for the inspirational stories of role models shared during their stay. You certainly showed our year 9 pupils that everyone can be successful if they have belief in themselves. Ms Warsi sent strong messages encouraging our young people to challenge the limitations from the traditional ideas and values within the community and strive for the highest academic and professional goals. Ms Begum talked about her success as an engineer at Airbus, and was certainly a wonderful role model to both our boys and girls. She spoke with absolute passion for her job and made it very clear to our students that finding a career they love offers many rewards. Mr Akbar sent a strong message about not settling for the first thing that comes along. He found his inspiration for further academic success, which lead to a new career, from just keeping his eyes open and taking on board each new opportunity that came along. And lastly, I would like to say thank you to Dr Reefat Drabu for her introductions and for chairing the question and answer sessions. Even when our students were perhaps reluctant to ask questions she challenged them with questions of her own. It is a shame that there was not enough time for this type of session as more of this questioning to the children perhaps would have opened up more debate and made them more comfortable to ask more questions. The DVD `I am a Muslim, get me out of here' was useful to engage the students initially, however this perhaps would stimulate more discussion with older students. Some of the ideas in the documentary may have been lost on some of our weaker students, who perhaps wouldn't have understood the messages being made. One colleague did say that it would be an excellent tool for engaging our sixth formers in debate. Thank you also for your offer to arrange a visit for some of our students to visit the houses of commons. This type of trip would be very valuable to our students, particularly to show them that anything is achievable if they truly aspire to it. I look forward to hearing from you with your thoughts on this and hope that this opportunity is still available to us. Once again thank your for your visit, and I look forward to hearing from you. If you need any other type of feedback please get in touch and I am going to be putting information about your visit onto our website in the next week, so perhaps you would like to view that also. Kind regards Anna Hyslop Carlton Bolling College Bradford
