|YOUNG MUSLIM BEACON AWARDS 2010
Sunday 11 July 2010
NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN
Nominations now open. Deadline: Wednesday 22nd September 2010
The Young Muslim Beacon Awards organised by the Muslim Council of Britain and its Youth Committee is designed to 'recognise, celebrate and inspire' excellence amongst projects / organisations who cater for young Muslims in the UK.
Established in 2008, each year only three awards are handed out to a local, regional and national project / organisation that have made a significant and meaningful contribution to the lives of young Muslims in the UK. It does not necessarily need to be a Muslim run project and/or organisation.
The highly limited numbers of awards each year are designed to showcase the very best of those helping our community. The main purpose is to give greater and more high profile exposure to such a project / organisation to showcase them as examples to the wider community and the country. Past winners have gained extensive mainstream coverage including the BBC and even internationally in Europe.
High profile speakers and guests attending previous award receptions have included Dr Phyllis Starkey MP, Chair of the Department and Local Government Select Committee, Rt. Hon. Alistair Burt MP, Conservative Assistant Chief Whip, Britain's first Muslim Peer Lord Ahmed of Rotherham and main supporter Baron Sheikh of Cornhill in the City of London who chairs the Conservative Muslim Forum.
This year the awards will be presented to the winners at a reception at the House of Lords on 11 October 2010 hosted by the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, Farooq Murad along with the Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum, Baron Sheikh of Cornhill in the City of London.
