MCB facilitates visit to Olympic Site Sunday 07 February 2010 |
The MCB Youth Committee along with London East Academy visited the London 201 Olympic Park in Stratford, East London on Friday 18 December 2009. The visit saw local young people visit the different Olympic sites within the park to encourage the local youth to engage with the Olympic authorities and inspire them to achieve. Bulbul Hussain, a British Bangladeshi who partook in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics was also joined. Rofikul Islam, MCB Youth Committees East London Rep said: "London won the bid in 2005 on youth, energy and dynamism. What we saw was increadible. I really hope this will inspire youngsters in East London to take as much benefit from the Games as possible, for it is our Olympic Games". The Revd Canon Duncan Green who is the Church of England's Olympics Executive Co-ordinator said of the visit "delighted to see local youth coming to see the real changes taking place where these youngsters live. Such visit should be commonplace". Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari MBE, board member of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) who occompanied the group visit said "this is what its really about".
