The Friday midday prayer is a special time for Muslims.All over the world, Britain being no exception,Muslims of all races congregate in the mosque.This coming together engenders a spirit of community as well as spiritual renewal.The Imam who leads the prayer delivers a short sermon often reflecting current local, national and international developments prior to the formal prayer.

Following the unprecedented step taken by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB)  to write to all mosques in the country urging them to work for the peace and security of all, we are happy that a number of mosques have implemented these guidelines in a true spirit of cooperation.

The sermon at Edinburgh Central Mosque reminded the followers  present to uphold the  values of our religion of Peace.Through recounting events from Muslim history and the life of the Prophet Muhammad, (may God's peace and blessings be upon him), the Imam vividly illustrated how divorced current world events are from the true message of Islam. He emphasised the shame he, and all true Muslims should feel at the association of Islam and terrorism and encouraged those present to be model citizens.

"Our neighbors should be proud to say they live next door to a Muslim"

Regents Park Mosque, one of the biggest in London,in a similar vein, inculcated the sentiments of the MCB in the sermon delivered.The Imam clearly stated that terrorism has no place in Islam.
