So What Exactly Have Arabs And Muslims Contributed To World Civilisation?

When we sit down to drink our morning coffee, do we ever wonder who discovered it? The next time we are in hospital, it might also be worth sparing a thought as to how this institution came to be developed? And who developed the first reading system for the blind or harnessed use of wind power?
These and countless other vital developments that have and continue to shape out world were the results of the genius of Muslim scientists. But as HRH The Prince of Wales noted in a public speech delivered at the University of Oxford, the sad reality is that far too few of our fellow country-folk – Robert Kilroy-Silk, included – know anything about this impressive and enduring legacy:
`If there is much misunderstanding in the West about the nature of Islam, there is also much ignorance about the debt our own culture and civilisation owe to the Islamic world. It is a failure, which stems, I think, from the straight-jacket of history, which we have inherited. The medieval Islamic world, from central Asia to the shores of the Atlantic, was a world where scholars and men of learning flourished. But because we have tended to see Islam as the enemy of the West, as an alien culture, society, and system of belief, we have tended to ignore or erase its great relevance to our own history."
HRH Prince of Wales
Founded by Professor Salim Al-Hassani of the University of Manchester's Institute of Science and Technology, MuslimHeritage.com brings together Muslims and those of other persuasions seeking to advance civilisation through the study of Muslim Heritage. Pioneered by the Foundation for Science Technology and Civilisation (FSTC Limited) in the UK, it is an ambitious project that is undertaking a much-needed role in raising global awareness on the importance and relevance of Muslim Heritage and its mostly unaccounted contribution to current world civilisation. We recommend that you bookmark this site!
