In short there is no justification for honour killing and forced marriages. It is just so sad to see these sorts of things happening, girls' lives being taken away and ruined for no real reason. These are just selfish and sadistic reasons. I cannot exaggerate how sadistic and cruel it is for a family member to force their daughter/sister into this kind of situation. Making them to spend their daily life with a man she never wanted to be with, who she was forced too.

Indeed, I agree that a forced marriage is contrary to the teachings of Islam. Prophet Muhammah (PBUH) and the Holy Qur'an are clear in regard to such issues. A woman's permission and full consent is essential for a marriage to take place. Forced marriages are a heinous crime against the Siratul Mustaqueem (The Righteous Path) and a defamation of our Graceful religion.

I think that you should be able to marry whom you want, and that forced marriages shouldn't be permitted.

I do not agree that in practise there are two types of marriage - the forced and the arranged - and that they are so far apart. There is a third category, the "Pressured Marriage", which sits in between and occupies both grounds. Muslim jurists have not done enough to deal with the problem. For example the 'silence is a girl's consent' principle is of no practical use in modern times, yet everyone knows it gives great scope to forced marriages. No one has had the courage to overrule the principle. So now we turn to robust measures in UK law - much needed.
