On 24 May 2005, the Muslim Council of Britain launched the introduction its new Books for Schools Resource Packs at the Cheadle Muslim Association Communtiy Centre and Mosque. The Cheadle Muslim Association and Stockport Education Service jointly hosted the event. Stockport's Muslim Community have funded the teaching packs for the borough's schools, with the Council's Education Services and Library Service providing matched funding.
The launch was attended by MCB Secretary General Iqbal Sacranie OBE, alongside Deputy Mayor, Cllr Peter Burns, the Director of Education Services Ed Blundell, and well over 100 representatives from the local authority, local primary and secondary schools, and the local press. For many it was their first visit to a mosque.
Those who attended were particularly impressed with the quantity and quality of resources contained in each pack. Shaukat Islam, a Deputy Head Teacher from Birmingham, who has helped develop the tailor-made resources, treated everyone to a practical demonstration of one of the projects about the Qur'an.
