Amid the rising numbers of obese within the UK, East London's Muslims have taken a proactive step to improve the fitness and health of its community. Hayaa Fitness, the premier health and fitness facility based at the London Muslim Centre, was launched on Saturday 29 January by boxing champion Danny Williams and supported by the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Richard Caborn MP. Addressing a packed family audience of over 500 people, Danny Williams, the heavyweight boxing champion who knocked out Mike Tyson, gave his personal seal of approval to the centre, saying: `I think this is an excellent gym, with fantastic facilities.' As a revert to Islam himself, Williams applauded the provision of separate facilities for men and women. The Minister of Sport and Tourism, Richard Caborn MP, unable to attend the launch sent a message of support describing Hayaa Fitness as a `pioneering facility'. `I wish the Centre a long and successful future, and congratulate all those people who have worked so hard in making this project possible', added the Minister. Testing out the state-of-the-art facility at the fitness centre, Danny Williams attempted to `knock out' a heavyweight punch-man - a free standing punch-bag - and said, `I will definitely come down and train here!'
