Dear Editor,
Re- Interview with Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain
I write in regard to your interview with the Muslim Council of Britain's
Secretary-General, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, published on 10th November 2007.
Our transcript of the interview recording reveals that you
exercised your prerogative to omit significant sections which
rendered the published version of the interview conspicuously
unbalanced. For example, when asked about racism in the white
community, Dr Abdul Bari replied, "racism doesn't exist only in
the white community, it exists in the minority community as well".
Finally, even though Dr Abdul Bari did not use the word 'Nazi'
or 'Germany' your published version read, "Britain must, he
warns, beware of becoming like Nazi Germany."
Whatever your motivation the MCB will remain resolutely committed
to its guiding principle of service for the common good. We are
proud of Britain's multiculturalism and champion the space afforded
to all people to engage and share with each other.
yours faithfully,
Mr Inayat Bunglawala,
Assistant Secretary-General,
Muslim Council of Britain
