Eid Ul Adha celebrations affected by Foot and Mouth disease
The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) together with other Muslim leaders yesterday attended a meeting called by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) to discuss the recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease and the impact on the Muslim festival of Eid Ul Adha in the UK.
Elliot Morley, MAFF Minister responsible for Farming and Countryside yesterday informed the Muslim delegation that all livestock movements had been stopped until 16th March 2001 to help eradicate the disease. This meant that the Muslim community would be badly affected as the supply of animals for the ritual slaughter on the occasion of Eid Ul Adha has fallen drastically.
In view of the very limited slaughter facilities and the ban to move livestock, The MCB would like to advise Muslims in the UK to delegate their Qurbani to overseas countries through the Muslim Relief organisations in Britain.
