The British Veterinary Association has collected 100,000 signatures to prevent religious slaughter and enforce stunning on all animals. This will affect both Jewish and Muslim communities, for whom stunning during slaughter is not allowed.

Judaism and Islam require adherents to treat animals with kindness and to minimise pain when slaughtering. The process itself is simple and does not cause harm or suffering to an animal when slaughter methods are carried out properly.

Stunning in abattoirs frequently fails to effectively stun the animal, thereby causing suffering, something which the British Veterinary Association and others should focus on improving.

This e-petition calls on the Government to continue to protect the right to non-stun religious slaughter in the UK.

There are only a few weeks left to get 100,000 signatures on the petition to protect religious slaughter in the UK and EU.

The deadline date is 30th March 2015. Please sign the petition and Spread the word:

We need to reach as many people as possible to add their names, so please share this amongst your friends, families, peers. The petition is open to everyone in the UK. If we reach the target this could result in a debate in Parliament. To date, there are 34,921 names on the e-petition. If we all sign and encourage all our friends and colleagues to add their names, we can achieve this target.

Together, we can protect non-stun religious slaughter.
