Dear sir
I've been thinking for a while of writing to you to show support. I am a Christian, an elder with the church of Scotland. I am very devout and pray regularly and attend church every Sunday (Health permitting, i'm also disabled). I feel that Muslims in Britain and many other parts of the world are getting a very bad press. Since the destruction of the world trade centre in America far to many people now believe that Muslims are all terrorists who hate democracy. I don't. To say that all Muslims are dangerous because of the actions of a few is patently absurd. You could make a case that all Christians are evil terrorists because of the actions of David Koresh at Waco in America. I also think that branding Bin Laden as evil is dangerous and wrong. I see real evil as being the actions of people who have no reason for carrying out violence. People who abduct young children and people who murder for the sake of it. Those people are evil. To brand Bin Laden evil is dangerous and missing the point. He is driven by principles. We should be trying to find out why he and his followers do what they do. As far as i'm aware he doesn't want to rule the world. All he wants is for the West to keep out of middle East politics and allow Muslim countries to exist without interference. A fair point. He also sees the presence of American troop in Muslim countries as an insult to God and his religion. Perhaps if the West would recognise that Muslims have some real concerns we could more effectively beat terrorism.
As a Christian I also have many concerns about Americas support for Israel. In my opinion they are as big a danger as Iraq. They have continually ignored UN resolutions for the last 40 years. As a Christian I also feel anger at the way they surrounded Christian churches in Palestine and even shelled them. They refused Yasser Arifat permission to visit the Nativity church at Christmas. I was impressed that Yasser Arrifat visits this at Christmas. It shows a man of integrity and tolerance as he is not a Christian. If only Israel showed the same levels of understanding as him.
Bush calls himself a Christian yet singly fails to show the love and respect for others that was required by Jesus. People often see the story of the samaritan as a story about helping people. It's also a story about respect and tolerance. It didn't bother the Samaritan that the victim he helped was not a Samaritan. He was human and all humans deserve respect. God made us all and all Gods creation deserves respect. He is the only judge that we should worry about. Only God can truly judge humans.
I hope that we can work through the present crisis and that in the future the Muslim community in Britain receives the respect and understanding they deserve. As a final point muslim show more respect for God than many so called Christians. You have my prayers and good wishes.
