Hello - I have just been reading with interest some of the e-mails on your site. I just want to say that it is down to the Muslim community to placate the fears that have been inspired in many people. After September 11 many Muslim commentators seemed to turn the issue around into an attack on Islam rather than vice-versa. Long before Sep.11 I was concerned that the strategy of Muslim fundamentalists was to inspire fear in the non-Muslim community in Britain because they do want a clash of civilizations and they well know that hate is engendered by fear. To quell fears it would be good to hear a leading Muslim categorically denounce Muslim regimes that abuse human rights instead of always qualifying with an if or a but and automatically turning the blame for all worldly ills onto the West.
Before Sep.11 this was impossible, now, thankfully, we hear Muslim voices raised from time to time that recognise the line where religion ends and fascism begins - where it becomes no longer spiritual but purely temporal. Ask yourselves why you inspire so much fear, give good reason not to be feared and the hatred will vanish with the dawn. Being British has nothing to do with race, colour or creed. It is a question of culture. It is a culture which embraces a broad church but there are some fundamentals that are untouchable - its democracy which it has evolved seamlessly for more than three hundred years, its love of personal freedom and respect for human life for example.
I believe the majority of Muslims want what everybody else wants - to raise their families in peace and prosperity. For their sakes Muslim leaders must fight the cancer of fundamentalism that is in their midst. I believe fear may have prevented them in the past (who wants a fatwah taken out against them?) but now it's clear that the perils of inaction are much greater than those of action. Also try to understand how non-Muslims might feel the need to defend themselves.
I know of homosexuals for example who are very frightened of you because some Muslims expound the belief that they ought to be put to death. I sincerely hope that the majority of British Muslims consider this belief to be thoroughly repugnant and totally unacceptable.
With very best wishes and in hopes of a peaceful, fruitful and happy co-existence.

Assalamalaikum,
Please can you take firm action on the TV and the news media to stop referring to the Terrorists as Islamic or Muslim terrorists.
We all know and I am sure the media world of this country also know that these terrorists are only people who are against the Western Policies in the Middle East.
So why are they not referred to as Anti-West Terrorists ?

Surely, just as in Ireland, the media refer to them as IRA terrorists and not Christian terrorists so why should we Muslim be subjected to this continuos attacks by the media. My children feel as if being a Muslim is a crime these days. Please can you use your good offices and make a strong protest and also please let me know what you intend doing.

Many Thanks,

Brothers .....
As a Christian minister I wish to stand side by side with my Muslim brothers in their deep concern and prayers about the dreadful possibility of war in Iraq and also share their worries about the impact of a war upon the UK's reputation in the Muslim world.
Let us pray together for eternal peace and harmony between Christians and Muslims.

With love and Blessings

Dear Sirs;
As a non muslim I am left wondering why you all sit back and in reality do little to avert war. Have'nt the British and Americans killed enough people already in Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan. How is this explained?

Thank you
