It is very commendable for MCB to convey condolences
to the Spanish Ambassador but I feel it is very
tokenistic. I think a long-term programme of sustained
activity on the evils of terrorism from an Islamic
perspective is needed. This will deter many young
people from joining groups involved in the destruction
of human life. A sustained Islamic campaign should
therefore be launched if we are to be seen as genuine
in the struggle against preventing terrorism and to
show the true nature of Islam which only spreads
through good deeds, humanity, and steadfastness to
deen etc. Let us show our mettle by revealing the true
Islam. MCB is in a good position to launch this
initiative and I am sure affiliated organisations will
play their part in helping to make it a success. It's
about time we Muslims pulled our socks up!

Dear Friends
I was so sad to read that Muslims are feeling more isolated. There are many
of us non-Muslims who are able to differentiate between terrorism and the
beliefs of Islam. What I find missing is a means whereby people of all and
no faith can come together in a public way to express their common
humanity.
I do agree that attitutudes toward Muslims are hardening and there is less
tolerance. People are just scared and I wish there was something I could do
to improve things for the Muslim community.
In peace to all

Dear Sirs,
I write with the deepest respect to yourselves and Islam. I find that we
are in agreement concerning fanatics who would use the prophet for their
own
ends.
The prophet blessings be upon him, fought many battles to bring respect
and
peace to Islam. I hope that you yourselves continue in his way and not
allow fanatics to use Islam for their own ends. Peace be with you.

Salaam brothers/sisters
Could you please inform me whether you plan to hold any demonstrations
against the evil terrorists who kill in the name of Islam? You've publicly
condemned them but as well all know, word are easy to say; expressing our
disgust at the actions of Muslim terrorist organisations can be best done
through public demonstrations. I'm sure many Muslims will answer the call
to such a protest, and would serve to demonstrate to many ignorant
non-Muslims in this country and abroad that not all Muslims are bloodthirsty
terrorists.
I joined the just protests against the invasion of Iraq along with many
non-Muslims who have shown Muslims tremendous sympathy. It's time we show
these people that we too are capable of reciprocating this sympathy by
condemning those who seek to destroy this country, our home.
I look forward to your response

| To whom it may concern,
I feel moved to mail you in respect of your condemnation of potential terrorism in the UK, I feel that the idea that we are all one community irrespective of our backgrounds against a common foe is long overdue, I was therefore extremely pleased to hear on the news that you have in fact taken this step. We need to see ourselves as one country not one country divided by religion.
In the words of the comedian Dave Allen - may your God go with you.
Many congratulations

I'm really worried by the news today. Given the forcefulness of your
press
release concerning Lord Carey's speech (which at its worst is a misguided
speech by a basically decent and well-respected man), I sincerely hope you
will be utterly forceful in your denunciation of British terrorists who
are
plotting to kill innocent British people like myself, and yourselves, in
the
name of Islam.
Having just read your most recent featured e-mails, I think it is
absolutely
vital to have "a long-term programme of sustained activity on the evils of
terrorism from an Islamic perspective" as urged in one of your e-mails,
and
it could only be a good thing to have "demonstrations against the evil
terrorists who kill in the name of Islam" as suggested in another.
In contrast, I heard the chair of the Islamic Human Rights Commission on
TV
tonight instead complaining about the use of the expression "Islamic
terrorists" and complaining that Muslims "were being targeted", while
barely
acknowledging the absolutely mind-blowing gravity of people planning to
blow
up you and me. It is surely a stance like this that could have a
catastrophic effect on mainstream opinion in Britain - all of our lives
are
being put in danger by terrorists plotting in the name of Islam, yet
British
people are the ones to blame if they call them Islamic terrorists; finally
the British authorities manage to capture some of them in the act, yet
they
are "targetting Muslims". I'm almost in despair looking at this situation
-
how can there be such misunderstanding? I think that big positive gestures
are badly, badly needed.
A final point: I was stopped last year under the Terrorism Act because the
police thought I looked suspicious. I had absolutely no problem with this
at
all. They can bug my phones, follow me around and spy on me for all I care
if that's what it takes to save one innocent life.
