When will the Muslim Council learn to stop taking offence where no offence is intended? A spokesman, Mr Bunglawala, said that some media coverage of Tuesday's arrests was unfair. He said that one piece entitled "Islamic bomb attack foiled" was offensive to ordinary Muslims. Please! Do we Christians feel offended when other religions talk about the atrocities inflicted by the Spanish Inquisition? Of course not! This kind of ultra-sensitiveness, at a very sensitive time for ALL religions, really doesn’t help good relations b etween members of the public!

Salaam,

Today's events can be seen in a number of ways. My first impression was "here we go again, the pressure is on us Muslims again to defend ourselves from the narrow-minded, pathetic ways of thinking that is currently bombarding us". In a way I was initially disappointed about your step in sending this message to the UK Muslim community, but having looked at some of the comments coming in on the BBC website I think it was a good step - because there was in effect pressure on you to take an official stance on terrorism and now you have made it clear by sending this message to the community. I hope it will be taken well by everyone. I see from your website that you had also condemned the killing of Sheikh Yassin which must also be pursued in all legal ways in order to establish its justification.
Please can you also keep up the pressure the other way and continue to voice the fact that Israel and it's appalling actions need to be stopped. America and Britain must withdraw their support for Israel - and not keep a neutral position! Israel continues to flout UN resolutions and must be held accountable. These are THE reasons why so called "Islamic Terrorism" exists. It is only when these are put right that we will take a massive step to World peace Inshallah.

May Allah make it easy for us.

Dear all,

Firstly could I say congratulations on your thoughtful action writing regarding terrorism in Britain. I am not sure that the BBC coverage was quite as sensitive as one would have liked, but it was on balance positive.
Secondly, have you considered running a badge campaign similar to the HIV and Breast Cancer campaigns? The same type of discreet and reasonably classy lapel badge could do two things at once:
- show support for the Muslim community by those of other faiths; and - show action and belief against terrorism for those from within the community.
I feel frustrated, as a non-muslim, that I have no way to represent to the wider world that I do not buy into the media led bigotry against the Muslim community. I am guessing that there are also many in the community that are frustrated they haven't got a way of clearly stating their own indignation at the terrorism that is taking place. The campaigns mentioned above raised awareness and had a significant impact.
Please feel free to ignore this suggestion if it has already been thought of and rejected!

Best regards

To All,

You are doing something wonderfull in your stand against violence. I often listen to news radio after work as I am picking up my children. The other day my eight year old son asked "why do muslims want to kill everyone? Are the evil?" I said " no son but the good Muslims seem afraid to stand up and say this is wrong."
I think that Islam has been hijacked, even if only in the newspapers and a few exteamists. I hope your efforts will convice more Imams to stand up against these unislamic actions.

Shaykh Sa'di
I fear that the negative comment on page 163 will have a greater impact on Muslims than the many positive ones. Yet why should this be; they are the opinion of one person and do not reflect a consensus amongst the non-Muslims in the UK.
I am neither Muslim, nor Christian, nor Jew. Yet if a world religion existed which united men rather than divided them, I would embrace it. I live in a so-called 'multi-cultural society' - where the different cultures engage in all the retoric of tolerence, but do little to enable it.
I have searched the Web for greater understanding of the eastern cultures. I found the following from the 13th century Iranian poet Sa'di. If only - this was the future I could leave my children.
The children of Adam are limbs of each other Having been created of one essence. When the calamity of time afflicts one limb The other limbs cannot remain at rest. If thou hast no sympathy for the troubles of others Thou art unworthy to be called by the name of a man.

Dear brother/sister,

Assalamalikum WBT I was very impressed of what Mr. Shaid Malik said about Muslims and the great efforts MCB is doing regarding media which gives Islam bad reputation. Malik's view was excellent compared to the Omar Bakr's wrong view of Islam and Mulsims. We should always highlights that 95% of Musulims in this country and west are abiding the rules and repsecting the country which we are living. We are British and we are peaceful Muslims as our religion teaches us to be peaceful. We should advice the media not to interview the wrong view who are less than 5% of Muslims such as Omar Bakri, Almohajroun, Hizb At-Tahrir or Abou Hamza, etc. These people damage our Islamic reputation and the teaching of moderate Islam.

Many thanks - Jazaukm Allah kheiran for your respected efforts, time and good way of uniting Muslims under true teaching of Islam.

Good for you, it's necessary that people understand that murder was never a central message of any religion. These may be difficult times but the message of these letters is extremely important and will have done much to help understanding
