Ms Saira Islam
As salam alakum
i welcome the stance taken by the MCB writing to the leaders of the mosques requesting them to forbid violence and that Tony Blair welcomed this in the House of Commons. It further helps distance Islam and its followers from any acts of terror.

Dear Sirs,

I have just listened to part of a 'debate' on terrorism; on Radio 5.
I applaud 'your' decision to remind all faith leaders that terrorist violence is unacceptable and that there should be no discrimination between peoples of faith.
It has always seemed to me that it would be a strange and harsh God who would recommend the 'blowing up' of innocent people; whatever the faith.
Best wishes

Dear Iqbal.

Having read your letter I would like to convey my best wishes to you and the followers of your faith during this difficult time.
I am an atheist but I hope that you and the followers of your faith feel free to express your religious believes without victimisation/

Peace be with you
Best wishes

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatu Allah
Dear Brothers and Sisters at the MCB,

I am writing to register my deep concern for the ill-conceived letter the MCB circulated to mosques in Britain and for the ill-advised wide publicity you saw fit to give it.
Ill-conceived because it pandered to the current Islamaphobia rampant in the British media. Terrorism is no more a problem in the Muslim community than in the Catholic one. Ill-advised because we are not yet ready to play the media game. Witness the interview with Br Iqbal Sacranie on Radio 4 this morning. The interviewer clearly implied that the MCB letter was a tacit admission of guilt on behalf of the Muslim community. The pattern and nature of the questions left Br Sacranie reluctantly (or maybe unconsciously) admitting to the worst accusations put to him, including that of an agent provocateur within our ranks. True we may have a few hot heads and some ultro vocal youths but they hardly amount to a serious terrorism threat. Your letter and its publicity has given the justification for future police and media attacks on the community.
It is very sad for me to witness the naive way the MCB has been drawn into this neo-liberal zionist trap. Please learn from our enemies; how often do you hear Jews criticising their own community? Our bottom line should always be: "We are a peaceful community, maligned by a hostile media. Our diverse communities have and continue to bring great benefits to the wider society. British muslims are an asset to Britain and Europe".
I hope my comments will be accepted in the sisterly spirit they are offered.
I pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to guide you in the future to a wiser and more considered ations.
"Wafakana Allahu Wa Iyakum limafihi Saleh Al-Ummah" Wassalam,

MCB:

Congratulations! You have made a massive effort for peace. I think the Muslim community is our best chance of stopping terrorism.
Keep up the good work and hopefully more will follow.

Dear Sir or Madam,

May I first take this opportunity to congratulate the Muslim Council of Britain for it's action in writing to all UK mosques this week. Not only do I strongly believe that such action is essential to continued peaceful race relations in this country, but I am also very hopeful that in following the instructions that are included, many young muslims will be protected from the few who aim to lead them away from true Islam. Well done.
Secondly, I would like to make a suggestion. With the social climate as it currently stands, the time is perfect for a display of public solidarity. Not only would this have the effect of askin questions of the beliefs held by any radical elements which might exist both within our borders and, depending on any coverage that the event received, beyond them, but by bringing out the Islamic community in conjunction with all the other racial and religious groups who also abhor violence >and love peace and freedom, a real message would be sent out to the UK population who are correctly cited as being islamaphobic in certain ways. I would love to see a march in London, on the scale of that which we saw before Iraq was invaded, with no political or religious message other than to stress the all the things which must bind us all together as a society, and the rejection of hysteria, prejudice and paranoia which certain media outlets seem to drive people towards.

I am sure these dark days will pass,
Best regards,

Steven Rhodes

Dear Members of the Muslim Council of Britain,
I would like to write to record my thanks and support for your call yesterday to Britain's Muslim in the struggle against terrorist activity.
I realise how difficult this announcement may have been for you. It is galling when one has to make statements which do no more than reiterate what the stated position is already and many of your members may have been making the point that to set out a denial of the place of terrorism in Islam only plays into the hands of those who wish to cast muslims in a bad light.
But sadly, in these times, declarations of the obvious are necessary. People are scared and fear is not a rational matter. They need reassurance - and regular reassurance - that people who do not wish them harm really do wish them no harm; sometimes it is very comforting to hear said out loud what you know already.
There will need to be more of these statements over the coming years, and from people of good on all sides and with all sorts of perspective.
Please accept my best wishes on taking this courageous step.

Yours sincerely,
