Just wanted to let you know that I condemn any discrimination at all of British muslims in the wake of the World Trade Centre attack. I thought you may be getting critical emails, and I just wanted to add my voice to those who wish you well.

As a non Muslim I wish to express my disgust at the bigots who choose to condemn the peaceful majority because of a lunatic minority. I have no intention of apologising on their behalf, if they were able to find a scrap of intelligence in their hateful souls they should do it themselves.

How would they feel if, someone in their family was convicted of a crime and as a consequence, ALL of them were punished for it.

In these times of tragedy we all need to stand together, no matter what race, creed, colour or religion to condemn those who believe violence is the answer.

Mrs Alison Dunbar

can I first say that, as a non-Muslim I am appalled to hear that Muslims in this country and America have been subjected to abuse because of the as-yet-unproven theory that Muslim terrorists were responsible for the attacks on New York and Washington. This is a disgraceful thing to happen, and my sympathies go to anyone who has been attacked in this way.

However, I wish to express my huge concern at the comments of a Muslim spokesman on Channel 4 news last night. Abdul Rehman Saleem was described as a representative of the Muslim Youth Organisation. This man stated

1. that if the West was to attack Osama Bin Laden, then all Muslims in Britain would be compelled by the teachings of the Koran to give their support (verbally, physically and financially) to him because Muslims must band together against anyone who attacks one of their own . This did not seem to depend, in his view, on whether Bin Laden was guilty or innocent, but only on Muslim against non-Muslim. and

2. that Muslims in this country are "Muslims in Britain" not "British Muslims" - a statement I found absolutely chilling.

I realise that these views are in no way shared by the many moderate Muslims in this country (people whom I sincerely hope see themselves as "British") and I do not know if your organisation has any influence over this man or his movement, but I hope you may be able to curb people like him before they do huge damage to relations in this country.

I send my good wishes to all moderate Muslims in Britain, and pray that we can all learn to live in peace and mutual respect.

I as a British Muslim was horrified to see the media portraying Palestian people celebrating in the streets. This is a tiny minority of people, people who are oppressed on a daily basis. The majority of Muslims have condemmed this attack. As yet, it is still being investigated as to who is responsible. I as a British Muslim woman feel extremeley vunerable while out, as a result of this irresponsible, yet so predicatable response from the media. Muslims as a whole are not responsible, and Islam is certainly not on trial, we are a law abiding people and we do not deserve this kind of reporting. Tony Blair should make a public statement as George Bush did, informing the public that vigilante behaviour towards Muslims will not be tolerated. We as a community are as saddened as the rest of the world by these events.
