First of all I would like to say how sorry I am that Muslims in Britain are receiving threats and may even have been verbally attacked in the streets of Britain following the events in the united states of America on Tuesday.

But I would also like to point out that some so called Muslim spokespeople are not doing the Muslim cause any favours for example a young Muslim on channel 4 news trying to defend the actions in America. As long as there are people stating such opinions openly the normal Britain will mistrust Muslims.

It also has to be said that most Muslim commentators are denying this is an act that was caused by Muslim extremists. Though we do not know who did these terrible acts the growing evidence is that Muslims performed them and the probability from the outset was that it might have been an act carried out by Muslims. I feel that you have to come to terms with this scenario. Many of your spokespeople seem to be in denial about this and this can only cause more animosity from some sections of the community towards your community. I myself felt agitated by this and I am on the whole a tolerant person.

To close this letter I would like to say if Muslims carried out these acts no right thinking person will blame the Muslim world.

I hope these events can bring all people together. After all don’t all religions preach about peace and tolerance? Even if you don’t believe in any faith then these must be the fundamental principles of life it follows if you don’t believe in any god you don’t believe in an after life. So this is your only shot at life you don’t want it ruined for you so you shouldn’t ruin it for anyone else and if you can improve someone else’s life other people may do the same for you.

I can only close this letter with a phrase used throughout our world and one, which I hope, will be used more often and with more conviction.

Having recently heard on the news you have been receiving hate mail I would like to give my opininion (for what it's worth!)

I am Greek Orthodox and see people of all religions as my fellow human beings, I find it disgusting that people have taken it upon themselves to show their anger of the terror which has occured in America by sending hate mail to Muslims they have lived along side and worked with for many years.

I am ashamed to be part of a community which reflects its anger in this way but at the same time proud to live in a country of mixed nationallities. I only hope we can continue to live alongside one another without the bigotry which has begun to rear its ugly head.

My grandfather was murdered in Cyprus at the hands of his own Greek community who saw his friendship with Muslim Turks and the British as unpatriotich. This was 40 years ago and I honestly believed the world had moved on from this narrow minded 'village' mentality, obviously not! To his peril my grandfather refused to stop socialising with his Turkish friends he had grown up with, but he stood up for something I wish the whole world would open its eyes to and see. We are all equal, no matter what race, religion, creed or colour we are all human beings.

It infuriates me that noone asked what religion the Oklahoma bomber was, noone turned on the people of whatever religion he was.

By sending this message I am trying to show the thoughts of the narrow minded ignorant people who sent the hate messages DO NOT reflect the thoughts of the majority. We all share the sadness of what has happened, no good religious person could possibly condone the slaughter of innocent men, women and children, I only hope we can find a solution which does not uneccesarily add to the number already dead.

I am horrified to hear and read through >the media of the backlash against your communities throughout the world, >and the messages of hatred you as a people are receiving. >Right thinking individuals, of whatever background need to show tolerance >and respect for all their fellow human beings at all times, but >particularly in the aftermath of such a tragic event. I hope it is of some >comfort to you that the majority of people also condemn the attacks - >physical, spirtual and moral against you all, and respect your >condemnation of the tragic and barbaric events of this week. >May your God always be with you.

I was dismayed and appalled to hear that you had received hatemail following Tuesday's atrocities.

I can only pray that the people sending these mails will realise that it is a twisted few who would do this, and not the entire Muslim community.

I pray that we can all stop trying to place blame somewhere until the culprits are found.

I have seen some of your speakers on TV these last few days. I appaulded at the by the harrasment some of your people are facing at the moment. I am sending this in the hope that it will stand out from the hate mail you have been getting and let you know that the majority of people in the UK and world can see past religious/effnic/political difference to the fact we are all people.

Hate can not be allowed to win any fight.
