I have just read some of the emails you have received and felt that I had to apologise for the racist and hate-filled ones that you have received. Please believe that not all non-Muslims think like that. I am Methodist, but I still believe that my God is your God, that there is only one God and he is for everyone. I am so sorry for some of the messages you have received. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with America at this time, and I hope that people from all religions in Britain can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with each other. Yours with prayers and hope

What happened in America, it seems to me,was because young men felt themselves alienated and powerless to change things and to effect the emancipation of their fellows by political means. They were valiant and idealistic, but what they did was wrong. I grieve for them and their loss to those who loved them, as I grieve for all who died. It was according to the Will of Allah.

To all the people who make comments about how Christians do not cause wars and incite violence against other religions: What planet are you living on???!!

Like the majority of people who live in this country I condemn utterly the unwarranted attacks on your people. The people who do this are no less evil than those who bought such destruction to the US last week.

I fear though that the attacks on your people will grow even more plentiful now that elements of your community have issued a call to arms, in particular the Al-Muhajiroon. I urge all members of the Muslim Council to show the tolerance and restraint that has not been shown to you and your people and condemn and distance yourselves from this organisation. Only by taking the moral high-ground can you defeat the racists and their ideals and show the diversity and strength of your people.

Defending yourselves is not only your right but your duty but to go on the attack against a people who already are fearful and angry will ultimately be self-defeating and will alienate every Muslim in this country from those of every other faith, not just Christian. Condemn attacks on the innocent of all faiths, do not repeat them.

I was saddened to read the hate e-mail's to the Muslin Council regarding the tragedy at the World Trade Centre in New York. Those who write of hatred towards you and say they are now racist because if the attack are no better than the people who perpetrated this heinous crime.

It is because of the hatred by fanatics and terrorists for ALL Americans that the tragedy in New York happened. Why do those who carried out the attack on the WTC hate all Americans? Perhaps you who have pledged hatred and racism towards the Muslim people because of this tragedy could answer that because your hatred is as illogical as the hatred vented towards the American people. It is because of fanatics and racists that wars start. Is it logical for the battered wife to say that all men are wife beaters? Is it logical to assume all 10 year-olds kill toddlers (ref. Jamie Bulger)? Is it logical to say that all fat people are lazy? Well? You who have written e-mail's to the MCB pledging hatred and racism, is it logical? Who's stupid enough to think that ALL Muslims are fanatics, terrorists and suicide bombers/pilots because of what has happened in New York? John T (12/9/01), Jo, Roland Taylor to name a few and of course the many who wrote anonymously. If you are white English people should other people look at what you've written and think ALL white English people are like you? Well, I am NOT, please don't tar me with the same brush as the 'fanatics' of this country whose illogical ramblings disgust me.

I am English, white, Christian and a woman. I am a mother, a daughter, a sister but above all that I am a human being.
