As a non-Muslim Brit I just wanted to let you know how disgusted I was to hear that Muslims in this country are being threatened and attacked in some sort of sick revenge for the attacks on America.

This ignorant minority needs to realise that by setting out to harm innocent Muslims they are no better than the terrorists who carried out last Tuesdays terrible attack, and indeed are just perpetuating the whole cycle of intolerance and hatred.

I hope that all civilised people of the world regardless of religion will be able to come together and fight terrorism from both sides before more innocent people are killed. None of us should tolerate any extremists who try to turn this into some sort of holy war because it is simply a fight for basic humanity.

Love & peace

The vast majority of British people do not hate all Irishmen because the I.R.A. bomb and kill - but there are a few idiots.

The vast majority of the non-Muslim British people do not hate or blame Muslims because of what happened in New York - but there are a few idiots.

The vast majority of us are sickened and repulsed by the senseless attacks on Muslims reported in the last few days especially. The ignorance of some people is unbelievable - there was one report in America of a Sikh being attacked on the assumption he was Muslim.

The vast majority of us welcome your presence in our Country - OUR Country, yours AND ours - particularly the majority who choose to try and integrate, without losing a love and respect for the culture they have left. Integration works both ways, it should not just be something Muslims are expected to do.

Do not fear reprisals by normal British non-Muslims. Just take extra care of yourselves when the ignorant are about. Do not fear attacks on Muslim countries, just because they are Muslim. That all finished 700 or 800 years ago. Do not fear President Bush using words like "crusade", that ill-chosen word has different meanings in the English language.

The vast majority of Christians, of whatever denomination, want peace and friendship - Islam says peace also. I have always understood that the Christian God and the Lord Allah are the same entity. May we both pray to our Gods to help and protect us all, no matter what way we choose to worship, over the coming months and years.

I feel compelled to contact you to condemn any acts of violence that has been commited against innocent fellow britains of the muslim faith. As usual fear and ignorance has demonstrated itself in thoughtless retribution. It makes me feel very ashamed that we cannot rise above this and use the opportunity for dialogue.

I am an ordinary housewife from a Christian background and I feel very sad for all the victims that will result from that sensless act last Tuesday

It has been good today to read your statement condemning the barbaric acts of last week and I support what you say. I am a committed British Christian and am totally appalled that any human being should want to commit these kind of acts, it is beyond comprehension. I am also equally appalled by barbaric acts that have been carried out in the past, going back centuries, against Moslems by 'so-called' Christians in the name of Christ. I would like to add my apologies as a Christian for these acts, they were certainly not 'of Christ'! We, as Christians, know Jesus Christ as 'Prince of Peace'. Please be assured that there are many, many British Christians very concerned and condemn any acts committed against innocent Moslems or people of any faith or creed.

Also, throughout the world , there are also many Christians, and other faiths, who are being persecuted, tortured, and even killed for their faith. Is this a time, especially, when we all should use whatever influence we have with any of these areas to equally condemn this?

As a Briton and a Christian I wish to express my solidarity with Muslims in Britain and elsewhere in the aftermath of the attack on the United States.

While of course I condemn the attack on America I would also condemn what appears to be a backlash of some sort against Muslims throughout the Western world.

It saddens me that in the 21st century we who call ourselves civilised cannot behave in a civilised and intelligent way towards those of other faiths.
