I understand the concern your community must feel with elements of our society not discriminating between the mainstream Muslim community and the extremists. This is not helped by language the media uses to describe the terrorists as "Islamic" which lumps all of Islam as terrorist. Tomothy McVeigh was not described as a "Christian Terrorist" but as a far right militant. To minimise the effect on the Islamic community the World's media must be persuaded to take the "Islamic" out of the description. Perhaps using "Religeous Zealots" or "Extreme Religeous groups". I am white, British and am for a concerted response to tear up Bin Laden's extreme religeous network. The next time it may be a biological or nuclear attack. This threatens all civilisation.

I just wanted to express my support and gratitude for the statement you issued in today's Daily Telegraph. Although I am not a Muslim myself, I have Muslim friends and would hate to see them suffer at the hands of anti-Muslim fanatics in the wake of last week's events. There are plenty of us who are aware that Omar Bakri Mohammed etc. do not represent the majority view of Muslims in Britain; we value the contribution made by Muslims to life in this country, and I just wanted to wish you well.

My name is Sophie Knight and I am a non Muslim. I wish to impress upon you that there are many non Muslims in this country who do not believe or condone the Islamaphobic propaganda that is rife at the moment. I do have some experience of Islam, this has taught me that the true message of Islam is one of peace and tolerance. I sincerly hope that there will be no further attacks on Muslims in our community, though I fear that this will not be the case.

I would just like to state that the discriminatory actions that some Muslims are experiencing do not represent the views of all. I was horrified by last week's attack, but to label all Muslims as extremist terrorists is as abhorent as the attack itself. That would be akin to labelling all Catholics as terrorists in Northern Ireland. We need, as a society, to be able to distinguish between religion and errorism - the British press all too often equate the two.

One of Britain's strengths is its diversity - I hope and pray that there will be a greater understanding between all elements of the British community and that this will lead to mutual respect for everyone\'s beliefs and greater tolerance on all sides.

I read about the attacks on Muslims in Britain and other European countries with profound sadness and anger. As an American, I was shocked and horrified by the assault on our cities by terrorists, but this is no excuse to attack Muslims and Arabs here, in Britain, or anywhere else.

My friends and I are disgusted by the cowardice of people who commit these acts of hatred. We work for a health and medical content provider and are attaching an article we wrote about stopping hate crimes in the United States.

On behalf of millions of other Americans, I apologize for the unconscionable acts supposedly commited on our behalf.
