The racist hate mail here sickens me to the core. The unintelligent bigots sending these messages cant tell the difference between true Islam and the aberration that is the Taliban and other fanatics. Racists who attack or abuse innocent muslims are no better than their islamic counterparts. As a British citizen I dissociate myself completely from the jingoistic right-wing racists calling for attacks on Afghanistan and Islam in general. Flush out and punish those who were involved in this atrocity but lets not tar all muslims with the same brush. I'll go so far as to say that I empathise a lot more with true Islamic values than I do with the secularism, materialism/consumerism and decadence of Western society.

I read about the attacks on Muslims in Britain and other European countries with profound sadness and anger.

As an American, I was shocked and horrified by the assault on our cities by terrorists, but this is no excuse to attack Muslims and Arabs here, in Britain, or anywhere else.

My friends and I are disgusted by the cowardice of people who commit these acts of hatred. On behalf of millions of other Americans, I apologize for the unconscionable acts supposedly committed on our behalf.

I was very upset on hearing about the threats/attacks/abuse directed towards British Muslims in the aftermath of the World Trade Centre/Pentagon incidents. I hope you understand that not all non Muslim British citizens are racist bigots. Please accept my best wishes and support in these difficult times.

Dave Selby, Merseyside.

Im an 18-year old lad at a large boys\' school in the wirral. at a rough estimate I would guess that there are about 40 muslims in a group of 1100 boys. As a senior prefect, occasionally I get asked to deliver a 10-15 minute speech at weekly assemblies, although as people are reluctant to do this, there is always the opportunity to volunteer.

Merseyside & Liverpool is an area with a reputation for its hostile 'lad-culture', and can be quite cold and violent in places. Im very, very angry that none of the local or national press has bothered to differentiate between the minority of extreme right-wing muslim fundamentalists that engage in terrorism (and are no more dangerous than right-wing fundamentalist christians) and compassionate & altruistic muslims who make up the vast majority of British muslims, are fantastic citizens, and as British as any of us.

There was a cartoon in the Times the other day which infurated me - a picture of a group of British muslims under the slogan : 'parasites'.

I am hoping to do a short presentation for the school assembly which would involve underlining this distinction, but as I am not a Muslim, I have no familiarity with the Qu\'ran. If there would be any chance of e-mailing me any relevant extracts of the Qu\'ran which stress the importance of peace, understanding & political freedom, I really would be most grateful.

Many thanks, & I hope your families enjoy a safe winter & xmas,

My name is Hazel Joynes. I am the manager for Committee on Publication for Great Britain and Ireland for the Christian Science Church. I want to lend a hand of friendship and assurance to all your fellow Muslims from our church community in this country. We include you all as fellow brothers and sisters in our prayers as one family. In the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, written by the Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, she states, "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself;" annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,-- whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes, annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed." All our members and adherents throughout the world are praying from the standpoint that One infinite God, good, is present and unifying nations and the brotherhood of man through each individual's willingness to to be humble, and listen for His guidance and live the impartial and unconditional love that He has for all His children. Please would you send to my office some pamphlets that explain the Muslim Religion. I would like myself and my staff to have a clearer understanding of your teachings.
