Sir...

Like all right thinking people I deplore the attack on innocent people from wherever it comes. I also deplore the jumping to conclusions that because those who attacked the WTC are Muslims it follows that all Muslims are terrorists or terrorists-in-waiting. I believe the Muslim faith to be one of justice and mercy. I just want you to know that those who jump to such conclusions are ignorant and foolish. What we wear on the outside serves no indication as to what is in our hearts.

I send you my regards and hope that people of your faith sees this present crisis through with patience and understanding. My best regards to you all.

i wonder if you can explain to me why you never stopped.the likes of abu hamsa spreading the words death and destruction to young asian men in your mosues up and down the country.recriuting individuals to fight for an islamic britain.

which was aired in 1999 on channel 4 openley inciting racial hatred towards white people and urging moslems to take up arms against the nonbeleaver .also explain why their were large numbers of mosques up and down the country celebrating driving round waving flags tooting car horns only hours after the twin towers disater.and can you also explain why the leaderof the british based al-muhajiroun anjem choudary who is the chairman of the (sml).

who is able to offer your people a (jihad challenge were by certain individuals can go to camps in this country and america and get military training for war .no doubt you will read this and think yeah just another racist .but surley judging by this email you will understand that i have no problem with your people i have made no false allegations all the above is true.but like the rest of the people in britain who are shocked by the scenes that were witnessed in london .

i hope now that the leaders of your organisation realise now the extent of racial hatred that is held in your own communitys remeber the riots??

Today I was pleased by the statements in the news media from "leading Muslim leaders" in the UK condemning those Muslims that these leaders identified under various guises including the Moslim "lunatic fringe". Let me tell you why.

I am British and live by Christian principles. I have travelled widely and have never been racist and never expected to be racist. I was shocked, horrified and saddened by the events of last Tuesday and assumed that this would be the reaction of all British citizens and residents, whatever their religion. During the next few days I saw media reports, including film, showing two kinds of Muslims.

The first told me repeatedly that Muslims were peaceful because their religion and teachings in the Koran taught them to be peaceful and they were sad about the events in the USA.. The second kind of Muslim loudly proclaimed their hate of the western and democratic way of life including the UK, their home (or host) country and celebrated the death of people in the USA.

I wasn't sure what to believe so last Friday I spent many hours "surfing the net" under various heading of Muslims in Great Britain to find out what Muslims said to each other. After I read the (front page) statements of sympathy for the USA I searched further and deeper into the web sites.

I was horrified by the hate that I found! Objectives such as the destruction of Israel; the destruction of the USA unless it changed its way of life to something more acceptable to Muslims; destruction of the UK if it continued to have the same culture as the USA. The peaceful religion of Muslims that some people talked about did not seem to apply in any way only some kind of hate politics. And in the usual way "political" news was carefully selected, distorted and turned into propaganda. If "Young Muslims in Britain" is followed then............

I found myself becoming racist! I had never felt this way before and didn't like it! I wrote to HMG suggesting that these web sites were edited or closed down before others read them and possibly reacted violently.

So I was delighted when I read that the "lunatic fringe" is only a few hundred and does not reflect the true image or action of British Muslims.

If this is true what are the Muslim leaders in the UK going to do about it?

Are you going to excommunicate them (or the Muslim equivalent)? Are you going to close down the web sites? Are you going to ensure that the teaching of your young people is of the true path? Most important are you going to publicly continue to disown your "lunatic fringe" and publicly announce that you have at least considered some of the actions I have suggested?

Words are easy but you will be judged on your actions.

You know that the British strongly believe that every person is entitled to live their life anyway that they wish provided they don't interfere with or harm others.

We have the same God - worshiped in different way. God knows our thoughts and will judge us all when our time comes. People can only judge each other by what they do.

Please, please don't ignore what I have said but give it some consideration and thought.

While I support a concerted worldwide alliance against terrorism everywhere, I oppose the impending attack on Afghanistan. It seems to me that the support of muslim nations, the MCB and other organisations and inviduals in the fight is central to its success. I cant see what an attack would achieve, especially as bin Laden might have fled the country. The attack on the US was evil, but only further misery will be heaped on ordinary Afghanis while also destabilising an impoverished Pakistan. The support of Pakistan is particularly essential, but could this not disappear if its governmetnt is overthrown? I understand the MCB and other UK-based muslim organisations have written a letter to Mr Blair, declaring opposition to such strikes. But, wouldnt a delegation to Parliament together with non-muslim NGOs be better?
