I am speaking on behalf of many friends and relatives, mostly white of UK origin, when I say that any attacks on people, property or mosques is a sickening barbarity that makes me ashamed to be British. I lived in Bedford for 10 years until recently, and if there is any way you could pass this message on to the Muslim community there I would be grateful:

For each and every time you (forbid) receive an insulting remark or worse from a fellow Briton because of what happened on Tuesday 11th, please substitute his or her face for mine and know that there is another who cares and wants peace just like you.

Peace is at the heart of Islamic faith, as I understand it, as it was at the heart of my Grandfathers Methodist faith. For a moron to accuse the average Muslim (if there can indeed be an 'average' in such as sense) of following or supporting the Taliban, purely because of his or her faith, is the intellectual and moral equivalent of condemning my Methodist Chaplain Grandfather as being a gun-toting right-wing Christian-Militia supporter. It just does not make sense.

In hope for resolution, peace and in the true spirit of brother hood, please accept this citizen's gesture of goodwill, on behalf myself and on behalf of who I know to be a great many others. We stand shoulder to shoulder with you.

WHY DON'T YOU MUSLIM B******* LEAVE ENGLAND NOW BEFORE YOU ALL DIE IN A CHRISTIAN HOLY WAR AGAINST YOUR SADISTIC EVIL SATANIC HATRED OF OUR HOSPITALITY TOWARDS YOUR F****** EVIL INTENT.

FOR AND ON BEHALF OF ALL WHITE CHRISTIANS.

Christopher Imrie .

To all of my Muslim brothers and sisters , I am shocked and saddened at the current wave of hatred and abuse that has been generated , and the violence and slanders to which you have been subjected by the ill - informed of this country , whether it be by the media , or members of the public , or functionaries of the State ..

Please believe that all right thinking people do not subscribe to this in any way , or condone it .

In solidarity , extending the hand of Peace,

I am a white, Church of England, British national who applauds the statement made by Yousuf Bhailok. I, and I'm sure many other British citizens of all faiths and religions, am very concerned regarding the hysterical wave of violence from fanatical groups. These fanatics (from all nationalities) may share a common religeon, language or upbringing but are not supported by their innocent and peaceful communities. Indeed they cause untold damage to their communities through hatred and distrust. The media coverage can also tend to inflame those more easily lead. Violence cannot be condoned and justice and violence are nearly always incompatible.

I believe that the persons who committed the terrorist act in the United States, and the groups behind them, are animals and should be brought to justice. Our inalienable right in Britain (and I'm sure the United States) is that people are innocent until proven guilty. I would like to see justice pursued by the entire world community and once the individual or group has been identified they answer to an international court. If it is a Muslim that is convicted, let them be punished by your religeous leaders. This would stop terrorist groups gaining more supporters for the 'acts of the West'. If military action is required against groups then this should be carried out in a planned and agreed manner and with the support of the entire global community .

I do not understand your faith and know little about your beliefs but have always been taught to live and let live and to respect the views of others. I write this in the hope that the views of the 'normal' man in the street are recognised.

I am a Christian and headteacher of a Church Aided Primary School in Leeds. Today Education Leeds passed on, to all schools, copies of statements, support documents and press releases circulated by MCB to all Education Authorities.

I felt saddened that the MCB felt the need to take such steps as a response to the mindless actions of some people towards British Muslims. I feel it is important, at times like these, that ordinary people, like myself, say how much we detest such actions in the hope that it helps to reassure the Muslim community. We have witnessed suffering on an unimaginable scale in the past ten days and the last thing we want to see is that suffering compounded by the acts of yet another mindless few. Please be reassured that the vast majority of British people see the situation exactly as it is and will not tolerate those who wish to attack or degrade our Muslim Community.

I found your circulated documents very useful and I am sure they will go a long way in helping schools to challenge any further incidents directed towards your faith and communities.
