I was particularly moved by the article from Yousef Islam on the BBC News on line about racism. Please accept my apologies for the reaction of many non Muslim people to members of your faith following the events in New York. As a London Firefighter I am proud to serve all those in my community and I have always found Muslim people to be among the most gentle and friendly in the city. It is a sad day when those who do not wish to see that the diversity both between and among all faiths will result in extremists casting a shadow over the true messages of any religion.

I am not a follower of Islam and have a limited knowledge of your religion. I understand the current view of your council in that there should be no attacks against innocent people in any country. What I would like to know is the likely reaction if there is ever proof that Bin Laden and/or his associates were responsible for the 11th September attack on the USA. My understanding of Islam is that it is a peaceful religion, in which Suicide, harm to old people, women and children is forbidden. All killing is forbidden except in the event of a holy war. If therefore proof of guilt were established against any muslims what would be the reaction of your council to those people. To a certain extent I can follow the reactions of the taliban in the context of insisting of proof of guilt before surrendering Bin Laden to Western demands. What would you think the Taliban should do if they were proven to be sheltering terrorists.

iv just read some of the views of non-muslims who are blaming muslims for the horrific events that happened two weeks ago tomorrow in america. im disguted at what was done but it WASNT done by muslims.it was done by cowards under the muslim name.but that does not give any of the non-muslims to have such low life view/s eg ...i hope they kill many muslim women & children... is this person trying to say he/she is not scum of the earth? you should be ashamed of yourself.my advice to you & the other non-muslims who share your views is to WAKE UP YOU IGNORANT low life!

As a Catholic Parish Priest, I absolutely deplore and condemn any sort of attacks upon members of the Islam faith, whether physical or vocal. I understand that Islam means submission to God's will, which is also the keynote of the Catholic Christian faith. Meanwhile, I have to report that one of my congregation, and his family, has this weekend been subjected to racial insults and physical attack: he is not a Muslim, not an Arab, but an Irish-Indian Catholic! Please do whatever you can to clarify the position of Muslims and/or Arabs in British sciety. May God/Allah preserve us all from injustice. Salaam/Peace of God upom you!

I have just been reading a selection of e-mails on your website and although I don't usually comment on these matters I felt I had to on this occasion. Any right minded human being would condemn the disgraceful events in the U.S.A., and as representatives of the British Muslim community you did very well in view of the obvious association between the outrage and Muslim terrorists. However, the leader of the Muslim Youth, who is not a British Muslim but a "Muslim in Britain" was a disgrace, and anyone who feels this way should leave these shores. Views like his are music to the racist's ears, and are going to create more problems for the Muslim people of this country.
