I appreciate your difficult position in these trying times and wish you success in separating the overwhelming majority of decent, hard-working, family-loving Muslims from the fringe extremists. However, I wonder if you - along with other religions and religious - are not part of the problem. Does not anyone who preaches "the only God is Allah" or the Christian "one, true God" or the Jewish "God's chosen people" preach intolerance? Aren't the "causes of terrorism" less the American aid for Israel and more the Muslims who denigrate the "infidel", the Christians who despise their neighbours for "digging with the wrong foot" and the Jews who feel they have more right to land than their Islamic neighbours? From the Coliseum to the Crusades to the Holocaust to the Trade Towers, bigotry has been the cause that gave terrorist fish a river to swim in. Will you and your fellow leaders of other religions take this opportunity to join together to stamp out this pernicious doctrine that permeates your philosophies and holy texts?

Asaalamu Alaikum

I pray this email reaches you in the best of health and Iman, i thankful to the MCB for the all work it has done over last few weeks to deal with this crisis. I rememeber the day after the September 11th attacks there was a passionate press release condemning these atrocities and rightly so. But I see with sadness today on your web page there is codemnation for the act of terrorism carried out by the USA and its British allies against Afgansitan, 20 innocent civilians lost there lives how many more will be lost before we speak out. You have taken on the responsibillity of leadership for Muslims, so represent our grief over this act of injustice that took place last night with the same fervour as you showed for the massacares of September the 11th. Please reply to my email and don't ignore me for you claim to represent me.

wa salam

I have read, with interest, your Sept 11 statement and on the whole find no quarrel with it however I am interested to know why your condemnation of the event was so brief and did not mention the fact that a known terrorist, even by your definition is housed and protected by the Taliban? He hides behind and is protected by the Taliban which as far as I understand it rule the country according to and in compliance with the rules of your prophet Allah. By Bin Laden’s actions and speeches he is trying to drive a wedge between Muslims and infidels , which means everyone else. Where is the condemnation of him when the words he uses are clearly far from Allah's teachings. Why in your statement of Sept 11 did you condemnation of the event in America only contain 4 lines and yet your remarks on the aftermath extend to 25 lines? If it is proved that Bin Laden is the culprit will you condemn him? How can you prove his guilt if we can't try him? Do we just sit back and wait for him to raise the Houses of Parliament or the Empire State Building? After all he has made threats against the great Satan of America and her allies, all in the name of Allah. Do you agree that America is the great Satan because if you do not then you should state so publicly and condemn Bin Laden just as fiercely as you did Salman Rushdie. If you do not then you must not be surprised if public opinion in the UK goes against you. It saddens me that you seem to have so little regard for a country that allows you far more freedom and gives you more rights than can be found in any of the countries which have government purporting to represent the will of Allah. I hope you will reply to this e-mail but doubt you will. Finally let me assure you that I am not racialist or anti Muslim. I am, I agree, a Christian and a rare one at that having been born a Roman Catholic, joined the Church of England and am now a Methodist.

Assalam O Alikum (Peace & Greetings be upon you) I wanted to extend my appreciation and gratitude to those responsible for the press release today (7th October) These are very difficult times for us British Muslims. I have walked with a very heavy heart since 11th September. The atrocities that took place in N.Y. have no decree in any divine one true GOD fearing & loving religion and certainly there is no comment or reference anywhere in the Quran, History or life of the last prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that mirrors the events of 11th September. I personally know of a UK Muslim killed that day who ironically married an American who embraced Islam !! The sadness is that this 'War on Terror' is not as clear as 'Black & White' as the media reports. This is a very complicated saga that stems generations and I solemnly believe that the perpetrators were from outside the ring of normal everyday GOD fearing folk and instead from a sinister group hell bent literally to cause world-wide disorder, divide & control. Two wrongs do not make a right. However the same coalition of leaders need to take a deep long look at the World's other terrorists and ask what drives some one to fly a plane into a commercial building ? Today I do feel that Islam is being targeted no matter how often PM Blair or President Bush say that Islam is not the enemy. It's almost as if they have said lets Alphabetically start with A for Afghanistan when Terrorist's have been to blame for so much pain close to home and abroad. After Bosnia, Kosovo, Chenya & Palestine it just does not add up. I just wish we could do something as Islam has so much to offer to Western society with answers to modern diseases like Aids, Drugs, Alcohol, teenage pregnancies, racism, break up of family values to name a few. That's what makes me weep in a time when I am considered an enemy and not a friend within the society I was born & bred in. As people try to find answers for themselves (The Quran has been the best book seller in the UK/US since 11th Sept) I hope that they will begin to see the huge light at the end of the dark tunnel that separates Islam from Terrorism.
