Just a brief note to record my thanks to the calm and collected presentation of the Muslim position by Mr Yusuf Bhailock on the Today programme. This was on the occassion when Mrs Thatcher made her statement. In that short slot of maybe two minutes he was able to encapsulate the position effectively and neutralise his opponent. We need more individuals like these who have marshalled their facts and are cogent in their responses.

I was appalled at the ignorant reactions to the WTC terrorist attacks that have been posted on your site. I do not believe in any religion, but I do respect the beliefs of others and have studied both the bible and the Quran. It may be true that, in the Middle East especially, there are many Islamic organisations that live by a code of terror and intolerance. However, they are not representative of all Muslims.

Historically, the Americans have been a major cause of conflicts in the Middle East and I feel that it is hypocritical and misguided of them to prolong attacks on Afghanistan. A Palestinian state would go some way to repairing the situation in the Middle East. I do hope this comes to fruition. I hope the world continues to fight terrorism without automatically adding the prefix \"Islamic\". The world must see that terrorism occurs worldwide, regardless of religion and culture: Take the IRA in Ireland or ETA in Spain. I wish peace and prosperity fo! r the people of Britain, be they Muslims, Christian or atheist, like myself.

I am writing this short email to signal my deep concern regarding the military action now underway in Afghanistan. How can it be right to kill more innocent people after the events of Sept 11?? And against the poorest people in the World?? I am not a Muslim myself, but I will urge all peoples of all faiths to pray for an end to this madness. This could cause a third world war. How many people will die then??

Let us all pray for peace now.
