Muslim Council of Britain Condemns Sectarian Vandalism of Bradford Mosque
The Muslim Council of Britain today condemned the vandalism of an Islamic centre in Bradford. The Husayniyya Islamic Mission was daubed with a hateful sectarian slogan over the weekend. The perpetrator is unknown, but an image has been caught on CCTV.
Dr Shuja Shafi, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain said: “The vandalism of Husayniyya Islamic Mission is wrong and I condemn it. It is particularly sad that this act took place on the month of Ramadan and was tinged with sectarian hatred.
There should be no place for sectarianism in our British Muslim communities. I hope the vandal is caught and brought to justice. And I welcome the expression of solidarity that has already taken place between mosques of different traditions in Bradford as a result of this attack. We must not let sectarianism to take root in this country. In this month of Ramadan, I hope Muslims of all traditions will come together in unity and solidarity.”
In 2013, the Muslim Council of Britain initiated a ‘Intra-Faith Unity Statement’ to encourage greater unity amongst the rich and diverse traditions of Islam in Britain today. It has since been organising activities to help build bonds between British Muslims.
